2021 life update

It’s been about a year since I’ve written a blog post here, so I thought I’d pop in to give you a bit of an update on what’s been happening behind the scenes.

As you probably guessed, the past 18+ months haven’t been great for in-home family photography. I didn’t do family sessions for well over a year. I’ve been doing a limited amount of sessions again since July of this year – though I’ve been sick through Sept-Oct. Crossing fingers the rest of the year will go as planned 🤞🏻

A practical thing: last spring I moved my website from Wordpress to Squarespace, and in that move, some things got very wonky on the website. Blog posts especially have lots of strange stuff going on; links aren’t working, photos are missing. Fixing these issues hasn’t felt like a priority, but I’m slowly getting through them.

In the past year+ we’ve been thinking about moving back to Finland, or moving somewhere else in the States. It hasn’t made sense for me to keep expanding my local client base, only to then move away. So this time has given me the time and space to explore what I’ve wanted to do for years: I want to help people in some capacity, through work that I can do from anywhere.

As a result, I’ve poured most of my time and energy into a coaching business; I help small business owners create more work-life balance and be happier humans.

I completely overwhelmed and overworked myself in the first few years of my photography business, to try and get it off the ground. After I learned to simplify and make the workload manageable, I kept seeing others who were struggling with theirs. I have always been someone who loves to troubleshoot ALL THE THINGS, so it only felt natural to start supporting others who wanted to work less but still make an impact in the world. This work allows me to get back to my psychologist’s roots a little bit.

Nova the dog is doing well. We’ve found a good groove with managing her liver issues and Addison’s disease. She still happily hikes, fetches frisbee, and wakes us up to get breakfast (only to then return back to bed.)

I hope that 2021 has been kind to you so far, and that you have found ways to navigate all the changes that have come your way.
