Moms - You Are Beautiful Just Being Moms
Documentary photography can be scary – will the images be flattering?
"Poor moms – they don't see how beautiful they are just being moms." - Kirsten Lewis (documentary family photographer)
What Kirsten Lewis pointed out is something that crosses my mind every single time a mom says she doesn't want to be in the pictures or needs to lose a few pounds before a family session.A lot of women are conscious of their bodies; it's a topic that pops up in social media all the time. Many say they feel body conscious especially after having a baby, but I've noticed it doesn't stop (or even start) there. Excuses to not be in pictures are in abundance even before you've had your first child. However, real life photos are keepsakes for your kids and not something you necessarily blast on social media (though you might!). Your family does not care what you physically looked like in photos – or in real life for that matter.Having photos of your kids is something your family will always appreciate, but having pictures of you is what your kids will appreciate when you are gone. Being your awesome, caring, parenting (and sometimes exhausted) self is what will make for the best memories despite love handles, a bad hair day or that extra five pounds. In your child's mind a great moment image trumps a polished selfie or a forced family group shot. Every. Time.
