Favorite nontraditional birth announcement newborn pictures

What families can do with their documentary Fresh 48 or newborn pictures is always at the back of my mind – whether it's about how to build a story for their photo book, making sure that there are photos that work as stand-alone works of art for their walls.

One thing that I haven't written about yet is the birth announcement.

Birth announcements are often the first time a picture of a newborn baby is printed and distributed to loved ones near and very far.

I could think of a million reasons why traditional birth announcement pictures should make way for documentary newborn photographs, but here are some:

You can show a little slice of life

Many come to the Bay Area for work, which means that their friends and family may be far away. Through documentary baby pictures you can give them a sneak peek into your life with a new family member.Depending on your birth announcement card, you can even add multiple pictures to tell a story – maybe the story about how your baby girl got upset – and how dad knew just how to fix things.

When you think real is more interesting

If you think real is more interesting/fun/amazing/beautiful than (Pinterest) perfect, the birth announcement is the perfect place to make a statement.

You want the picture to be unique to you

Oftentimes the posed and propped pictures all look the same! When looking at a growing amount of birth announcements stuck to the fridge, will your announcement card show the uniqueness of you and your baby?

Here are some pictures that would work great for birth announcements:
