Print Project 3 | 2016
March went by in a blur. A birth, a very intense writing class as well as continuing the work on my business' foundation seemed to erode the month away. For this reason, I did not point the camera at my life a whole lot. I printed a couple pictures from a blini night with friends, a self portrait I took with Nova and a photo I took at Golden Gate Park while waiting for clients.Last year I invested a lot in classes on how to run a business – I want to be in the 15% of photographers that survive their first three years in business. And I do not only want to survive, but to have a successful business at the end of the third year. But, focusing on the business side of things was rough for my creativity-craving mind.To nourish the artist in me, I decided to invest in a lot of inspiring education this year. My plan for 2016 is to hone in on my vision, style and philosophy.Since street photography is the reason I started doing family photography differently in the first place, I decided to join Eric Kim's street photography workshop in San Francisco.I have followed Eric Kim's work on Facebook for years, but I have been hesitant to hop aboard the workshop because street photography is not my official focus. Now that feels incredibly silly; if I had done the workshop a few years ago I may not even have started doing family portrait sessions in the traditional way.The workshop is happening in just ten days. And I am extremely nervous. To engage with so many new people at once – everyone at the workshop as well as the people out on the streets – is definitely stepping out of my comfort zone. You guys will be hearing plenty more of the workshop from me in a couple weeks! The street photograph is from just outside California Academy of Sciences. Like a nature photographer anticipating lions to show up at the drinking pond at dusk, I was waiting for something interesting to happen within my frame. The rain fell in showers and for the hour or so I spent at the park not many where outside. When this runner hit the middle of the row of trees I knew it was going to be my photo.
