Sophia's Birth Story | San Jose Natural Newborn Photographer
A couple months back I had the honor to document baby girl Sophia's birth story. Dorothy's doula Patricia shared some thoughts with us about the day:
Dorothy had been contracting on and off for a few days. On November 27, after all of us had enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving weekend, I got a call around 5:50am. Around 6:45am I arrived at their home to a very happy Dorothy who felt that she was finally in true labor. Indeed she was contracting every 4 or so minutes – but I thought that she might be TOO happy. I felt that she had some more time to go before we would be off to the hospital. She told me that she called Jenna, the photographer, and again I thought that it might have been a bit early to call her.
You see, Dorothy was handling the contractions beautifully, laughing between them and even smiling during a few. Not the usual behavior for a mom in good active labor.
Less than an hour after getting to their home, Dorothy’s water broke while going to the bathroom. (How convenient was that?)
Dorothy began to feel what I like to call "pushy pressure". Within half an hour we headed off to the hospital. We got settled in the room around 9:00am. An hour and twenty minutes later she pushed for 5 minutes. YES!!! Only 5 minutes – and baby girl Sophia was born.
What a champ. What an amazing birth. Wish all first time moms birthed like this.
