I need to get better at taking personal documentary pictures

You guys,During today's Fresh 48 session the parents and I got to talking about pictures I post of Nova, and I was thinking I really need to get better at taking pictures of my personal life – not just ones of the dog!

Nova is the focus of most of my personal photos – she's easy on the eyes as well as doesn't complain if I take pictures. I find taking pictures of friends and family – the important people of my life – hard sometimes.

Part of it is because I want to be in the moment, and I forget that I could use a couple minutes to take that one picture to remember the day by. The other part is just be feeling uncomfortable taking pictures if I know someone feels uncomfortable around cameras.

I've noticed that friends who have kids see the value in pictures and are quite happy when I pull the camera out. Some other friends on the other hand duck out of the pictures when I reach for the camera, or mumble something around "don't you take enough pictures for work?"And I hear you friends – I'm not the most comfortable in front of the camera, either.

But I try to remind myself of this:Five, ten, or twenty years from now we're all gonna wish we had more pictures of this time of your lives. The everyday stuff – not just the special adventures and the trips. We're going to want to show our kids what our life was like before them, or they will ask for pictures and stories of that time – I'm 100% certain of it.

So friends, you have been warned.
