Babies Sleeping On Their Parents | Bay Area Photographer

A flashback to 2014.Some of you may know that the moment I decided to get away from propped and posed baby sessions was when the above photo happened. My friend's baby fell asleep on her, and I just HAD TO get some shots. And after that I was convinced; parents should be in pictures – no other "props" needed. This was going to change how I do newborn and family sessions, I could feel it.(I started my photography journey in 2013  by working with models to expand their portfolios. Once this very same friend of mine was going to have a baby, she asked if I would be willing to try out some maternity and newborn photography. I figured I can give it a shot, googled online a bit, learned about newborn photo session safety.  After that I did some other propped and posed newborn sessions – I seemed to enjoy working with babies and families more than models! Something didn't quite click for me, though, but I could not put my finger on it. After the photos I took of my friend and her sleeping baby, I played around with lifestyle photography for about 6 months before I landed on documentary family photography.)A lot of moms aren't thrilled to be in photos after having a baby, usually because their bodies have changed. I want urge you to at least be a supporting character in the pictures, because it will tell your kid so much about who you were as a parent. It has been almost two years since that day, and my conviction that parents should be in photos is still growing stronger. So here we are – babies sleeping on their moms and dads:
